Indian equities are set for a positive start on October 6, with GIFT Nifty pointing towards a firm opening near the 22,660 level.
The domestic market regained momentum in the previous session, bringing an end to a four-day losing streak. The Nifty settled above 22,500 despite a choppy trading session, as softer crude oil prices and widespread buying across sectors helped lift sentiment. Pharma and healthcare stocks, however, remained an exception and ended lower.
On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 72382.47 up by 472.77 points or by 0.66 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22555.75 up by 133.8 points or by 0.6 %.
On the global front, most Asian-Pacific markets were trading higher, mirroring overnight moves on Wall Street. The Nikkei 225 and Hang Seng rose 0.27 per cent and 0.71 per cent, respectively.
Overnight, the Nasdaq Composite hit a new high and settled 1.05 per cent higher at 27.477.31. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 ended 0.18 per cent and 0.66 per cent higher, respectively.
