Indian equity markets are set for a positive start on August 21 after staging a strong rebound in the previous session, with the Nifty snapping a seven-session losing streak. The recovery was supported by broad-based buying across key sectors amid positive global cues and easing US Treasury yields.
After a firm opening, the market witnessed some profit booking in the initial hours but regained momentum as the session progressed, with the Nifty hitting an intraday high of 24,265.15, led by gains in media, financial and realty stocks.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77537.72 up by 628.04 points or by 0.82 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24231.85 up by 153.55 points or by 0.64 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading on a mixed note on Friday morning following an overnight steep decline on Wall Street peers as bond yields rebounded. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.65 per cent, and South Korea’s Kospi was up 0.47 per cent.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 1.32 per cent and 0.87 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1 per cent lower.
