Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note on August 19, tracking GIFT Nifty, which was trading marginally higher at around 24,202 in early trade.
Indian benchmark indices ended lower on August 18, with the Nifty slipping below the 24,200 mark and extending its losing streak to the sixth consecutive session, weighed down by broad-based selling and a sharp rise in crude oil prices amid escalating tensions between Iran and the US.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77235.46 down by -492.7 points or by -0.63 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24154.9 down by -132.75 points or by -0.55 %.
On the global front, Asian markets traded lower in early deals, tracking a sell-off in semiconductor stocks. South Korea’s Kospi fell as much as 7 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 3.16 per cent.
Overnight, US equities also ended lower as the yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury note climbed to its highest level since early 2025, amid growing concerns over the inflation outlook. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 declined 0.22 per cent and 0.69 per cent, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite ended 1.33 per cent lower.
