Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a weak note on July 13, with GIFT Nifty indicating a negative start, trading around 24,067 in early trade.
In the previous session, domestic equity benchmarks extended their recovery for a second straight day. Both the Sensex and the Nifty gained nearly 1 percent, driven by broad-based buying across sectors, reflecting improved investor sentiment despite prevailing global uncertainties.
On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77569.39 up by 827.57 points or by 1.08 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24206.9 up by 244.1 points or by 1.02 %.
On the global front, most Asian markets logged losses in early trade on Monday as worries about energy supplies from the Strait of Hormuz resurfaced amid ongoing strikes between the US and Iran. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were down 1.44 per cent and 3.58 per cent, respectively.
US President Donald Trump said Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz is open for commercial traffic, but Iran declared it closed.
Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 settled 0.29 per cent and 0.49 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.29 per cent higher.
