Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are poised for a strong opening today, January 22, taking support from positive global cues. GIFT Nifty was trading higher around 25,312.50, indicating a firm start for domestic equities.
In the previous session, the Indian equity market extended its losing streak for the third consecutive day on January 21, weighed down by weak global sentiment. Geopolitical tensions surrounding Greenland and a sharp sell-off in Japanese government bonds triggered sustained selling pressure, pushing the benchmark indices below their 200-day moving averages for the first time in the last eight months.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 81909.63 down by -270.84 points or by -0.33 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25157.5 down by -75 points or by -0.3 %.
On the global front, stock markets in Asia rallied, with benchmarks in Japan and South Korea leading the charge. South Korea's Kospir roes to cross the 5,000 mark, driven by technology stocks.
Overnight, Wall Street ended higher on easing geopolitical and trade tensions. The S&P index rose 1.16 per cent while the Nasdaq was up 1.18 per cent,
