Stock market benchmark indices slumped on Thursday, with the Sensex plunging 706 points, after the US implemented an additional 25 per cent tariff on India’s purchase of Russian oil, announced by President Donald Trump.
Investor sentiment was further weighed down by continued foreign fund outflows.
The fresh levy, which took effect on Wednesday, raises the total US tariff burden on India to 50 per cent.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 80080.57 down by -705.97 points or by -0.87 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24500.9 down by -211.15 points or by -0.85 %.
