Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note today, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,649.5 in early hours. However, overall sentiment remains cautious with investor focus on the impact of US President Donald Trump’s 50% tariffs, effective August 27, weighing on export-oriented stocks.

On the global front, Asia traded higher as Wall Street stocks pared off gains after hitting a record high on Wednesday. Japan's Nikkei was up 0.3 per cent while South Korea's rose 0.3 per cent, leading the gains in the MSCI AC Asia Pacific index.
