Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are poised for a positive start on Tuesday, tracking upbeat global cues and GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,634 in early deals.
Investor sentiment will be shaped by the latest domestic retail inflation data and corporate earnings reports.
Retail inflation eased to an eight-year low of 1.55% in July, down from 2.1% in June, driven by a sharper deflation in several food categories. However, edible oil prices surged at their fastest pace since the early 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict. Inflation stood at 1.18% in rural areas and 2.05% in urban regions.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 80235.59 down by -368.49 points or by -0.46 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24487.4 down by -97.65 points or by -0.4 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets edged higher with mainland China's CSI 300 up 0.37 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng 0.94 per cent, Japan's Nikkei up 1.3 per cent and South Korea's KOSPI up 0.38 per cent.
Overnight, Wall Street indices closed higher as consumer price index (CPI) data for July was tamer than expected, soothing investor fears that tariffs are not spiking prices. The CPI rose 0.2 per cent last month after a gain of 0.3 per cent in June, in line with economists' expectations.
S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite close at fresh record highs on Tuesday, up 1.1 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively. The Dow Jones settled 1.1 per cent higher.
