Indian equities opened flat on Wednesday amid negative cues from Asian peers and stronger rupee. In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 was up 0.16 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was lower by 0.36 per cent.
Meanwhile, Indian rupee began Wednesday's trading session on a stronger note, opening at 85.15 against the US dollar, up 10 paise from Tuesday's close of 85.25.
Among sectors, Nifty PSU bank and media were down by 1.5 per cent each. Auto, energy, metal and consumer durables were also trading in red.
At 9:43 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 80324.85 up by 36.47 points or by 0.05 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24324.05 down by -11.9 points or by -0.05 %.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 309.40,+2.03%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1932.70,+1.28%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1825.00,+1.12%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 360.20,+0.83%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2932.00,+0.78%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1943.45,-5.89%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 8687.85,-4.42%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 650.65,-2.25%), State Bank of India (Rs. 800.80,-1.35%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11774.00,-0.78%), among others.
On the sectoral front, BSE Realty index was at 6936.39 up by 193.27 points or by 2.87%. Macrotech Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1353.00,+5.10%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2174.35,+3.53%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1425.00,+3.31%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 676.15,+2.62%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1674.90,+2.54%).
Among others, CGS index was at 63248.66 down by -41.21 points or by -0.07%. Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1501.65,-2.20%), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 4512.00,-2.11%), Elgi Equipments Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3184 , shares advanced were 1252 while 1756 shares declined and 176 were unchanged.
