Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) is planning to build a 20-inch interconnecting crude oil pipeline between Chidambaranar oil jetty and Karaikkal port. Holding company of CPCL, Indian Oil Corporation has been engaged for executing the project as EPCM (engineering, procurement, construction management) contractor, the project is expected to be finished by the end of March 2011.
Several projects worth a total investment of Rs 7,763.69 crore has to be taken up this year, and this project is one of them, according to the company's annual report.
Rs 2,615.69-crore auto-fuel quality up gradation project is the current ongoing project, which was started to meet the revised specifications of high-speed diesel (HSD) and motor spirit (MS). This project includes a NHT/ISOM unit, utilities, diesel hydro-treating unit, hydrogen generation unit and off sites. The progress of the construction of these units is in advanced stages.
Replacement of the pipeline, which connects Chennai port with its Manali refinery with an investment of Rs 65 crore is among the oil PSU's projects for this year. The project is anticipated to be finished in the next 12 months.
Resid upgradation project to maximise the distillate yield of the refinery is the proposed new project, which roughly costs around Rs 3,350-crore. The project involves revamping of existing hydrocracker unit and installation of a delayed coker unit along with many other associated jobs.
