Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Transportation Infrastructure business has secured a large order from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) to construct 156 route km of high-speed ballastless track (Package T1) for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
The contract covers design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of track works on a Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis, spanning from Mumbai’s Bandra–Kurla Complex to Zaroli village in Gujarat. It includes over 21 km of underground track (Civil Packages C1, C2) and 135 km on elevated viaducts (Package C3).
This marks L&T’s second track-work package in the MAHSR project. The company had earlier been awarded Package T3 (116 km) from south of Vadodara to Sabarmati depot in April 2022, which is progressing rapidly. With the new contract, L&T is now responsible for more than 50% of the track works in the MAHSR corridor.
The project will adopt Japanese Shinkansen J-Slab Track Technology, enabling speeds of up to 320 kmph, enhanced ride quality, greater service life and improved maintainability.
Commenting on the order win, S.V. Desai, Whole-time Director & Sr EVP (Civil Infrastructure), L&T, said, “Our success in the T3 package involved rapid technology absorption, indigenisation of plant and machinery, and value engineering. These have been key factors in our approach to this new order, and we are confident of on-time delivery.”
L&T is a leading player in ballastless track technology, with expertise across multiple systems including Plinth Track, Slab Track, Low Vibration Track, Floating Slab Track and Pre-cast Slab Track. The company is currently executing similar projects across major metros in India and abroad, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Jakarta.
