The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in partnership with the UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN SIAP) and the UN Statistics Division (UNSD), is hosting a three-day regional workshop (July 14–16, 2025) on "Data Ethics, Governance, and Quality in a Changing Data Ecosystem" in New Delhi. The event brings together senior statisticians and heads of national statistical offices from 16 Asia-Pacific countries.
Organized for the first time by MoSPI's National Statistical Systems Training Academy (NSSTA), the workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of national statistical offices (NSOs) amid growing demands for high-quality, timely data and evolving technologies. It features four thematic sessions on modernization, quality assurance, and innovation in official statistics, alongside interactive group discussions.
The inauguration was led by Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI, and attended by senior representatives from the UN and Indian government. Speakers emphasized the importance of ethical data practices, trust, transparency, and regional cooperation in advancing the SDGs. The workshop reinforces India’s leadership in statistical capacity building and its commitment to a future-ready data ecosystem.
