Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are set to begin today’s session on a positive note, taking cues from GIFT Nifty, which is trading higher around 25,741. Market sentiment is likely to stay optimistic, driven by upbeat Q2 earnings, supportive global cues, and strong activity in the primary market.
In the previous session on November 4, equity markets closed lower, with the Nifty slipping below 25,600 as broad-based selling pressure persisted, except in telecom and consumer durables, which managed to hold gains.
The 30-share benchmark index ended at 83459.15 down by -519.34 points or by -0.62 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25597.65 down by -165.7 points or by -0.64 %.
On the global front, markets across the Asia-Pacific region were buoyant in trade on Thursday, tracking Wall Street gains after AMD’s third-quarter earnings beat lifted artificial intelligence stocks. South Korea’s Kospi index jumped 2.5 per cent, leading regional gains and recovering from its decline in the previous session. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 1.45 per cent, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.58 per cent.
Overnight in the US, Wall Street’s major indices settled higher on Wednesday as corporate earnings and private payrolls data came in stronger than expected, while Treasury yields surged following the day’s economic reports. The broader S&P 500 ended with gains of 0.37 per cent, the tech-heavy Nasdaq jumped 0.65 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.48 per cent.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1215714 with a total turnover of Rs. 84155.33 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 283040949 with a total turnover of Rs. 54658857.91 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5505492 with a total turnover of Rs. 402340.78 Crore
The FIIs on 04/11/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10046.43 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 110.61 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 11978.61 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 572.09 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1932.18 Crore and Rs. -461.48
